tie design

Here is an idea of what your tie design might look like in the beginning. Add patterns, stripes, polka dots, plaid, creative shapes, etc.

Assignment:
Create a painting or colored pencil drawing based on a tie design.
Use complementary colors.

What I want you to know & do:
1. The definition of complementary colors.
2. What principle of design makes pattern.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of art and the principles of design.
4. Apply problem-solving skills to create solutions to a specific visual art task.

Steps:
1. On paper, draw a small frame line inside, about 1/2 inch, the page edge.
2. Inside this line, draw a frame line further inside, one to two inches.
3. Draw a tie design.
4. Divide up the areas created into different shapes, using stripes, plaid, polka dots, etc. This includes the inside frame. You should have at least 15 different shape-areas to paint in.
5. Color the shapes using one set of complementary colors in the large frame and one set of complementary colors in the tie design and its background.

Questions:
1. What are 3 sets of complementary colors?
